Flame-vortex interaction during turbulent side-wall quenching and its implications for flamelet manifolds

In this study, the thermochemical state during turbulent flame-wall interaction of a stoichiometric methane-air flame is investigated using fully resolved simulation with detailed chemistry. The side-wall quenching shows both head-on and quenching-like behavior that significantly affects CO formation in near-wall region. insights from are used to evaluate recently proposed (tip) vortex mechanism identified experiments on quenching. It describes entrainment burnt gases into fresh gas mixture near flame's point. states observed similar phenomena experiments. A novel chemistry manifold presented accounts for effects dilution due exhaust recirculation area enthalpy losses wall. validated an a-priori analysis results as reference. incorporation leads increased prediction accuracy regions flame-vortex interactions.
